Noosa Botanic Gardens

The Noosa Botanic Gardens are a short drive from the hinterland town of Cooroy, on the shores of Lake Macdonald.

The gardens comprise eight hectares of native and exotic plant species. The gardens are home to an abundance of wildlife. Other features of the gardens include:

an open-air bush chapel
a fern house
a lily pond
large lawn areas with winding paths leading to picnic areas
a Greek style amphitheatre (a circular structure with rows of seats)
children’s play facilities
permaculture and composting area
toilets
drinking water

The site was originally farmland. Council resumed the site in the late 1950s. Part of the site was used to create the Lake Macdonald water supply.

The site was used to dump rubbish until local resident Ida Duncan approached council for permission to clear the site. With the help of other locals, Ida Duncan cleared the area of weeds and car bodies.

Funding from a government community employment program was used to start construction of the botanic gardens in 1987.

When the program ended, council appointed two full time staff to continue construction and maintenance of the gardens. Former Noosa Shire Parks Curator, Bob Bickley designed the layout of the gardens. Council has funded the gardens since 1988.

The Noosa Botanic Gardens officially opened to the public in August 1990.

The Friends of the Noosa Botanic Gardens group meet regularly for a social get together or at the Cooroy Library.  The garden maintenance volunteers can be found in the gardens every Thursday.  There are many ways of volunteering at the gardens as tour guides, fund raising events, education programs and general support activities.Contact the Friends group for more details.

Noosa Tutor offers a student tutoring service throughout Noosa Shire and Hinterland. It is a one-on-one academic tutoring service (for Prep to Year 7) that can take place at your home, local libraries or community centres. Noosa Tutor can also offer - for primary and secondary students – transition support and learning engagement, social, peer and communication skills building. Noosa Tutor offers a first, fee free session that focuses on collaboratively creating an education plan - tailored for each individual learner. Carol is a registered teacher, educational consultant and wellbeing coach with 30 years' experience working with students, families, schools and communities.

Michael & Kristin Robinson have been the proud owners of Raine & Horne Noosa Hinterland since September 2010. "Not many people realise, but the Raine & Horne Office in Pomona is the longest standing real estate in the Noosa Hinterland area and has been in the same building the entire time. Chatting to previous owners of the business, we have narrowed the opening of the office down to circa 1984, it was one of the first Raine & Horne offices to open in Queensland. I actually started working in the office when I left school, before heading off to study and having a family", explains Kristin.

Michael & Kristin have both grown up in the area, with Michael being a long time Cooroy local & Kristin moving to Pomona at the age of 7.

Opening the Cooroy office in September 2015 while still retaining the Pomona office was the logical move for the couple to capitalise on their history and knowledge of the area. This move has seen the business go from strength to strength, with both Pomona & Cooroy offices still operating successfully amongst the closure of a number of other offices. "We are very loyal people & are exceptionally proud of and committed to the Raine & Horne brand, you will not see us jumping & changing when it suits. We are Raine & Horne through and through and enjoy the supportive family nature of the business".

Away from the business Michael & Kristin enjoy spending time with their teenage children, working on the family property, camping & spending time near the water. If Michael is not busy running Open Homes on the weekend, his perfect weekend would see him up the beach with a fishing rod in one hand and a beer in the other while Kristin relaxes reading a book.

The Majestic Theatre is located in the heart of the Noosa Hinterland in the small historic town of Pomona. The Majestic Theatre is a not for profit, community run theatre and cinema that has been in operation for 100 years as both a community hall and a silent film theatre.
